FICAC, the World Federation of Consuls, in honor of Women’s International Day, would like to convey the following message of Hon. Nathalie Mimoun, Chairwoman of FICAC’s Women in Diplomacy Committee:
March 8 is International Women’s Day, an opportunity to celebrate the importance of women in our society and recall the challenges they face, the collective efforts to eliminate these discriminations and promote women’s equality in all areas.
In this period of instability in the world, the role of women has a crucial importance. Women play an essential role in society, whether
-On the family level, by ensuring the management of the home, and education of children…
-On the social level, by helping to build a harmonious society thanks to their skills in communication and listening…
-Economically by being increasingly present on the labour market and occupying responsible positions in many sectors…
-On the political level as representation of women is essential for true democracy to meet the needs of the entire population.
It is so essential to recognize and value the role of women in all areas of society. Their contribution is important to build a more balanced, fairer and more sustainable world.
In 2023, many countries took legislative measures to promote gender equality.
The application of these laws and policies remains a challenge, and continuous efforts are needed to ensure that women’s rights are fully respected and protected.
In 2024, due to the uncontrolled application of artificial intelligence, social media and new communication techniques, women face new challenges such as online harassment, online privacy violation, women’s objectification, degrading comments and promotion of unrealistic beauty standards.
We have to adopt a responsible, inclusive approach, taking measures to protect women online, an important field that WIDC has to work on it.
The status of women in the world is more than a question of morality or justice, it is an economic, social, cultural, and political imperative!
