FICAC, the World Federation of Consuls, was founded in Copenhagen on 2 October 1982 by a small group of visionaries led by Consul General Vagn Jespersen of Denmark. Countries present at the meeting and first signatories were Finland, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Norway, Sweden and Denmark.
The Consular Corps of Jamaica hosted a Press Conference at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel on Wednesday, January 7, 2004, to announce that Jamaica has been chosen as the venue for the 8th World Congress of Consuls in 2006. Speaking at the Press Conference, the Minister of Industry and Tourism, Hon. Aloun N’Dombet Assamba, said that her Ministry “wishes to express its pleasure that Jamaica has been chosen to host the 8th World Congress of Consuls in 2006”.
History is about great events and outstanding leaders who have shaped our destiny. Tonight, we come to honour a great Jamaican and an outstanding Caribbean son who has had a hand in shaping the destiny of Caribbean peoples. No one is more deserving of this great honour.
